Gingrich Calls Obama ‘Totally Irresponsible’
Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich criticized both the President and the Democratic Senate for their lack of leadership in the debt ceiling debate, the
Los Angeles Times reports.
Gingrich spent Saturday in northeast Iowa at the Nordic Fest — a celebration of many Iowans Norwegian heritage. He told reporters after taking part in the parade that President Obama has been “totally irresponsible.”
“There’s a point where the country’s got to say to the president and Democrats in the Senate, ‘You have a pretty big obligation too,” he said.
Gingrich pointed out that the Senate has not passed a budget in 800 days and Obama’s only attempt to pass a budget in the Senate failed unanimously. Gingrich praised the leadership of House Republicans and has supported both budget bills passed by the House.
“You may not like it but they passed a solution,” he said. “The Senate has passed nothing. The president has not proposed a single public serious solution. Now [House Speaker John] Boehner, with enormous effort, has passed a second solution.”
“I don’t think conservatives can give Obama a credit card,” Gingrich explained. “He’s proven to be totally irresponsible fiscally.”
