Gingrich Accepts Newsmax, Trump Debate Invitation

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich became the first GOP candidate to accept an invitation to the Dec. 27 Newsmax debate moderated by Donald Trump on the ION Television cable network via a Tweet, according to The New York Times’ political blog The Caucus.

Gingrich’s acceptance will force the other candidates to follow suit and announce if they too will participate in the debate or not.

Both Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry’s campaigns said they were still trying to decide.

Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota has not yet stated what she will do, although she has met with Mr. Trump several times over the course of her campaign and has spoken about him publicly as a possible running mate.

Texas Representative Ron Paul and former Governor Jon Huntsman have both declined.
