Gingrich Receives Warm Tea Party Welcome
Republican presidential front-runner Newt Gingrich received a warm welcome at a Staten Island hotel for a “Tea Party Town Hall” Saturday, according to Salon
During the town hall, Gingrich wished Herman Cain well and thanked him for his “bold ideas,” like his 9-9-9 economic plan.
Cain announced his withdrawal earlier that day.
Throughout his speech, which covered everything from Herman Cain, to the Middle East, to Bank of America, there was cheering from the 600-person crowd.
Gingrich noted that one of the reasons he left Congress was that he “burned out a number of Republicans — because I pushed so had for reform.”
“I think I represented the spirit of the tea party before there was a tea party,” Gingrich said.
Following the speech, Gingrich and his wife greeted supporters, signed books, and posed for photos.
