Gingrich Wins Tea Party Patriots Straw Poll
Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich won a straw poll conducted by the Tea Party Patriots Sunday, reports CNN
The former House Speaker beat out former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum for the win with 31 percent of the vote. He was trailed closely by Bachmann at 28 percent and Romney at 20 percent.
“An overwhelming number of activists from around the nation showed they are serious about electing a candidate who advances tea party principles,” Jenny Beth Martin, National Coordinator of the organization said.
But, she qualified, “Just as in 2010, candidates like Newt Gingrich will need to show they will be fiscally responsible and protect the Constitution in the White House.”
