Tea Party Activist to Challenge Rep. Nunnelee

Mississippi businessman Robert Estes — a tea party activist from Southaven — will officially announce his candidacy Monday to unseat House tea party freshman Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.), the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Estes said his campaign theme consists of one word.

“Jobs — there’s nothing else but jobs,” said the 38-year-old owner of Estes Grading and Trucking. “It’s time somebody stepped up to the plate and not be afraid to cut spending, regulations, rules, and unnecessary taxes, and get the wheels turning again to create jobs.”

Estes said he founded his company 13 years ago with a dream, “a totaled Datsun car I got from a salvage yard and $510 to my name.” Today, he manages a fleet of 16 dump trucks, six tractor-trailers, and 20 employees.

Estes gained national attention last year with the launch of a website, wheresamericasjobs.com, devoted to policies promoting domestic job growth. His popularity grew after he addressed the Leadership Summit at The Heritage Foundation.

Nunnelee will also face a likely challenge in the March 13 primary from Henry Ross, an ex-Justice Department official and former mayor of Eupora who has sought the House seat previously.
