Sarah Palin has slammed first lady Michelle Obama’s decision to invite rapper Common, who called for the burning of President George. W. Bush, to the White House.

“Oh lovely, White House,” the former vice-presidential candidate commented on her Twitter page today.

Two-time Grammy winner Common is on a list invited for a poetry evening on Wednesday.

Common — real name Lonnie Lynn jr. — is expected to participate in rap workshops with children in the afternoon before the evening event.

During a 2007 HBO show “Def Poetry,” Common rapped a song called “A Letter to the Law” which included lines about the Iraq war: “Burn a Bush cos for peace he no push no button/Killing over oil and grease/No weapons of destruction.” A tape of that performance has been viewed more than 800,000 times on YouTube.

Common is a long-time member of President Obama’s former Church, the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, which was led by controversial preacher the Rev. Jeremiah Wright until 2008.

Other poets scheduled to appear at the White House include Jill Scott, Aimee Mann, Elizabeth Alexander, Billy Collins, Rita Dove, Kenneth Goldsmith and Alison Knowles. The White House says the evening will “highlight poetry’s influence on American life.”
