Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) – a Tea Party favorite – is hailing new Obama administration legislation calling for the sale of 12,218 properties the government no long wants or needs, according to the
Desert News. The administration says the plan would save the government $15 billion over three years primarily through the sale of physical structures. Chaffetz previously introduced similar legislation dealing more with the sale of open land.
"We're trillions of dollars in debt — at least we can sell off excess federal property," Chaffetz told the Deseret News. "This is property that is sitting around doing nothing, (ready) to be sold back into the private sector. … Hopefully (my legislation) is starting to resonate with the White House, because I was encouraged to see their legislation today.”
