Akin Gains Support of 3 GOP House Leaders for Senate Republican
Todd Akin has won the support of three House GOP leaders Wednesday, reports
News-Leader.com. Among them is Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the best-known of the three.
Ryan is chairman for the House Budget committee and author of the House GOP’s controversial budget plan.
“Todd Akin has been a great asset to the House Budget Committee. His principled approach to fiscal responsibility is exactly the kind of leadership America needs and I appreciate his hard work," Ryan said in a statement released by Akin's Senate campaign.
The two other Republican lawmakers who have thrown their support behind Akin are Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, chairman of the Republican Study Committee, a conservative group of GOP lawmakers, and Rep. Pete Sessions, of Texas, who is the chairman of the House Republican Congressional Committee.
Akin is currently amid a three-way GOP primary. One of the other GOP contenders, Sarah Steelman issued a response to Akin’s new Washington pickups.
"Typical Washington D. C. You scratch my back and I will scratch yours," she said. "I am not the go along get along guy that is running to represent Washington D.C. I am running to represent the citizens of Missouri."
