FreedomWorks Puts Pressure on Lugar
Pressure continues to mount for Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar following Freedom Works PAC's endorsement of state Treasurer Richard Mourdock over the senator, reports The LA Times
“Over the past few months we have been speaking with our Indiana members and allies, including those affiliated with the Hoosiers for a Conservative Senate, and two things are clear: they want Richard Mourdock to be their senator and they are going to do the hard work necessary to make it happen,” said Max Pappas, the executive director of Freedom Works PAC, in a statement.
“Mourdock’s [sic] has always been a reliable, consistent supporter of limited government principles, and he proved his commitment to fiscal responsibility as Indiana’s State Treasurer,” the Freedom Works statement read.
Lugar campaign spokesman David Wilkie said the endorsement “is not a surprise.”
“The campaign by Mourdock and outside groups promises to be negative and deceptive and ear-popping. Freedom Works cherry-picked from 1 percent of Sen. Lugar’s more than 12,000 votes,” said Wilkie.
Freedom Works, on the other hand, said it used its own network to arrive at their endorsement decision.
Freedom Works, an offshoot of the advocacy group led by Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, has been very active in the organization and support of tea party groups throughout the country.
