Rep. Ron Paul Adresses Town Hall in Dubuque

Texas Rep. Ron Paul spoke to a packed town hall of 130 people in downtown Dubuque who applauded his views on overseas spending, reports Iowa Politics

“We need to do less overseas and start bringing our troops home, and take care of ourselves here in this country,” Paul said to applause inside the Northeast Iowa Community College.

Paul’s speech lasted 30 minutes during which he also addressed cutting foreign aid, a policy he depicted as “taking money from poor people in a rich country and giving it to rich people in a poor country.”

If elected president, Paul said he would support cutting federal entitlements.

“We have to convince the American people that it is in their best interest to opt for freedom rather than dependency, and we’ll all be better off for it,” Paul said.
